Everest Helicopter Tour takes you to the exotic land of Sherpas in the Solukhumbu region of Nepal. Hovering over 4,000 meters from Kathmandu, the aerial view of the highest mountain in the world “Mt. Everest” from Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar is a moment of bliss.

Everest Base Camp (EBC) is the trekker's paradise and iconic landmark on the base of Mt. Everest. EBC is located at an elevation of 5,364 m. (17,598 ft.) offering a grandeur view of snowy mountain peaks Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and other neighboring peaks.

Kala Patthar is another important landmark known for the stunning view of Everest Summit which Base Camp forbids. Located at an altitude of 5,644 m (18,519 ft.) with higher altitude gain compared to Base Camp, it gives you panoramic views of mountains and other major peaks. Flying from Pheriche, you will view the world of icy cold Himalayas from a helicopter.

The Everest Heli tour itinerary starts from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu to Tenzing-Hillary Airport of Lukla at 9,000 ft. Often considered a world extreme airport in the world, Lukla is the gateway to Mt. Everest and other mountain peaks of the Khumbu region.

Next, fly to Pheriche in 10 minutes, where two groups are formed. Shuttle passengers above Everest Base Camp to Kala Patthar and land again at Pheriche. After that, go to Hotel Everest View at Syangboche for a delicious morning breakfast with a view of Mt. Everest and other peaks.

A helicopter landing in the Everest region is a luxury and easiest way of touring over conventional trekking. Instead of trekking to the Everest Base Camp and its periphery for 14 to 15 days, you will reach it in just a few hours. Make your dream into reality. Heli tour of Everest is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that you should not miss.

Everest Base Camp Heli Tour

Step 1: Pickup: Meet at your hotel and drive to Kathmandu Domestic Airport.

Our representative will meet you at your hotel. There will be greeting sessions where Gateway Adventure's representative will brief you about the helicopter tour to Everest. Then escort you to the domestic airport of Kathmandu.

Step 2: Heli Flight to Lukla

The H125 and B3E Model Helicopters will take you to Tenzing-Hillary Airport of Lukla in 45-50 minutes. Lukla is the gateway to Mt. Everest and other mountains of the Khumbu region, including Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. Landing in Lukla means you have time for task like buying permits and all. In the meantime, the pilot will refuel the chopper. You will buy Sagarmatha National Park fee of USD 55 (NPR 7000) per person. And flying to Pheriche.

Step 3: Fly to Pheriche

You will land at Pheriche. The pilot will shuttle guests in two groups. One with 2 people and another with 3 people depending upon the weight of the passengers. Why not all 5 people? Helicopters cannot lift more than 3 people at high altitudes over 4,500 m. (14,764 ft) due to low air density and reduced lifting capacity of the helicopter.

Step 4: Fly over Everest Base Camp & Kala Patthar and Land at Pheriche

After forming the group, the pilot will shuttle passengers. The helicopter will fly to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar for 10 minutes. That might sound like limited time in the sky. But it’s all done considering your safety. The 360° view of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and other mountain ranges will allure you. Another landmark you will see is the Khumbu Glacier with Khumbu Icefall at the west end of the lower Western Cwm. You have to wait until all the groups land at Pheriche. Until then, you can explore the river bank nearby.

Step 5: Breakfast at Hotel Everest View

You will land at Syangboche for 1 hour and enjoy the view of Everest and other mountains in the Khumbu region. Another exciting part of the helicopter flight landing tour is breakfast at Hotel Everest View which is optional. Hotel Everest View is not an ordinary place you think of. You will have your breakfast at 13,000 ft (3962 m) with a stunning view of Everest. The breakfast costs 35 USD (NPR 4,500) per person.

Step 6: Return to Kathmandu

After the Everest Base Camp tour, you fly back to Lukla in 5 minutes and then back to Kathmandu in around 45 minutes. At Lukla, refueling will be done. There is also a provision of directly flying to Kathmandu from Syangboche in case refueling is not required. Returning to Kathmandu, you will explore the historically and culturally rich Kathmandu Valley.

Step 6: Hotel Drop

The helicopter tour in Everest formally ends after dropping back to your Hotel in Kathmandu.

Frequently asked Questions about 1 Day Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour

The cost depends on whether you book a shared or private charter. A shared group tour typically costs between USD 1,300 and USD 1,500 per person. A private charter for up to 4-5 people usually costs between USD 4,500 and USD 5,000 for the whole helicopter
The Everest Base Camp helicopter tour package normally includes Kathmandu hotel pickup and drop, helicopter flight, Lukla, Pheriche, Syangboche stops, and scenic overfly of Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar.
A shared Everest helicopter flight carries up to 5 passengers, based on total weight limits and daily flight planning.
Kala Patthar landing is possible on group joining Everest helicopter tours, but only 2 people can land at one time, and it remains subject to health, safety, and weather conditions.
Kids above 24 months can fly and are treated as full passengers. Young children aren’t recommended for Kala Patthar landing, but the Everest overfly is fine.
Everest helicopter tours are best early in the morning (6:30 AM in spring/autumn) when skies are clearest for Everest views. The best times are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) . During these months, the skies are clearest, and the visibility is the best. Winter (Dec-Feb) offers crisp air and stunning views, while the monsoon (June-Aug) is less favorable due to clouds
Yes, for safety and performance at high altitudes, there is a strict weight limit. The per-person limit is usually around 100-120 kg (220-265 lbs). You must provide your accurate weight when booking
Absolutely. Joining a shared group is the most popular way to do the tour, as it significantly reduces the cost per person
You should book as far in advance as possible, especially for peak seasons (March-May and September-November). The tour has limited daily capacity and often sells out weeks or months ahead
Yes, but your tour operator usually handles these. The required permits are the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit. The total cost for these is roughly NPR 3,000 each for foreign nationals (approx. USD 20-25 each)
A standard 4-5 hour tour starts with an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla for refueling. You then fly over the Khumbu Valley, land at Kala Patthar (5,545m) for 10-15 minutes, fly over Everest Base Camp, and then descend to the Everest View Hotel for breakfast before returning to Kathmandu
Landing directly at Everest Base Camp is usually not permitted. It is reserved for climbing expeditions and the terrain is unstable. You will fly over EBC and the Khumbu Icefall for a spectacular aerial view
A landing tour includes a stop at a high-altitude point like Kala Patthar. An overfly (or flyover) tour only flies over the region without landing. Landing tours are more expensive but offer a much more immersive experience
Yes, it is the perfect alternative for those with limited time (a few hours vs. 12-14 days), physical limitations, or a desire to see the majestic views without the strenuous hike
Safety is the priority. If your flight is canceled due to weather, the operator will offer you a free reschedule for the next available day or a 100% full refund
